1.1.2 is live—for realz
When we first discussed the 1.1.2 update last Friday, I noted that the software was not, at that time, appearing in iTunes, for some still undetermined reason. Strangely, that situation didn’t change on Friday, and as of this morning, the only way to get the software was to use that link to download it, and perform the upgrade manually.
It appears, however, as though that long wait is now over, as we can confirm 1.1.2 has hit the iTunes pipes. Apple is being typically terse about what the update contains, saying only that it “includes additional new features, bug fixes and supersedes all previous versions.” Apple added: “Oh, and by the way, did we mention it’s for the iPhone? Yeah? Great.”
For more detailed impressions on what 1.1.2 can do for you, check out our above post from Friday. All in all, this is mainly an update for the international users among us, though in my brief anecdotal experience, I would say that my phone seems to be back to the battery efficiency I had before 1.1.1, with none of the additional Wi-Fi or heat problems that I’d experienced. So, those of you who’d also been running into those problems (and that was, apparently, many of you) should give the update a try and see if it fixes anything for you.

My initial impression is that yes, my Wi-Fi issue is fixed:

Don't know about the seeming coverflow issue (http://www.iphonefreak.com/2007/11/twice-bitten-al.html) yet tho.

When you type passwords shift is no longer shift lock. That really confused me the first time I entered my wifi network password (my first experience with the keyboard).

Well so far, so good. No more wild battery drain off the charger, but I haven't had a chance to charge it off of the Belkin yet, so I can't report on my exp with my heat issue.

yeah, my battery problem seems to be getting better. AT&T isn't the best in some parts of my city, so I have found it useful to also turn on the "airplane mode" to help save battery life. But overall battery life is way way waaaay better than before.

Does anyone have an idea when Apple will produce a meaningful update that actually DOES sommething?
They bring out these updates like it's a real big deal but as of yet one cannot sync tasks or notes, no voice dialing or no speed dial.
I am NOT impressed with their lack of interest in blocking hackers for jail breaking phones or fixing this or that trivial problem; when are they going to correct MEANINGFUL things?

I agree about the need for a meaningful update. Some way to sync Notes is urgently needed. Emailing them is a one way street. We need a way to get them from a computer back to the iPhone. I expect something soon either from Apple or a third party.
When you touch a phone number in Contacts or Recents or anywhere, the phone dials the number. Isn't that speed dialing?

The biggest feature I see lacking is the ability to search the contact list ... esp. in the "notes:" section ... that's how I find many of the phone numbers using my Mac Address program...
AT&T has to improve their coverage or Apple has to let us go with other carriers ... it's horrible in many areas of the country.

Actually speed dialing is assigning a keyboard number to a contact. This may not be necessary for all, but I have to drive a lot between working locations and often have to dial numbers quickly in order to pivit crews employees etc from one location to another. The last time I used the iphone to look up a number, I found myself in the opposite lane with the word FREIGHTLINER filling my windshield. After that, the iphone was relegated to secondary duty and the phone that voice dials was immediately put into service.
