For many people, the ability to unlock your iPhone for any GSM cellular provider was a life-saver. But now the question is how do you do it? Thankfully, fellow MacUser co-blogger Cyrus Farivar wrote a guide for Macworld on how to unlock your iPhone for free.
Basically, the process involves installing AppTapp and OpenSSH for the iPhone, FTP-ing some files to the device, and running the free SIM unlock. But, since Cyrus wrote the article, the iPhoneDevTeam updated the free iUnlock and has released the final version of the unlock, anySIM, complete with a GUI interface, making the installation even easier. But, before you rush to free your all-in-one device of the chains of AT&T, do keep in mind that the SIM unlock could damage your iPhone and be disabled by future Apple updates. But, if you’re okay with living on the edge and need that wireless freedom, the opportunity is here.
