Apple: Software updates will “most likely break” native apps

Greg JozwiakHey, you with the champagne. Put it down—you, no party horns. Look, this party’s over, okay? I know you’re all excited about the fact that Apple VP Greg Joswiak (pictured in his poker garb) said that Apple would be as Switzerland to third-party native iPhone applications, but there’ve been some, well, changes since we last spoke.

Gearlog, the source of the original story, last updated the piece yesterday at 3:15 with the following note:

Apple says “software updates will most likely break” native apps as they go forwards.
Sweet. So they’re not going to try and maliciously break third-party apps, but it’ll probably happen anyway. I’ve no doubt that third-party developers will find a way around any problems that Apple introduces, but it may very well be a bumpy ride.

So, anyway: save the cake for later. Like when Apple gets around to releasing a software development kit. For now, as you were.

I dont really think that this is that big of a deal. How many updates does the iPhone receive? Personally, if I had 3rd Party APPS (not web applications) that broke when performing an update, I would simply reinstall the applications (provided it was an easy task).

This is why I took my iphone back. I love the interface and the physical dimensions of the phone but Apple is just to strict!!!
99 cents for ring-tones, integrated battery, no picture messages the list goes on and on. Its just sad how such a once in a lifetime device can be ruined by one company's greed!!!

Shame on you Apple, free the iphone.

Sounds like Anthony didn't really do any research about the iPhone before running off to buy one.

Had he waited a few weeks, he would have known about all those limitations and requirements.

No sympathy from me, that's for sure.
