4GB iPhone dead, Jim?

8GB iPhoneWhile Jobs was busy lowering the price of the 8GB iPhone, yours truly was wondering “Hey, what about that other iPhone they sell? You know, the one nobody seems to want.” It seems that the 4GB iPhone may be reaching its end of days. The Apple Store no longer displays the 4GB option on the iPhone page, and the press release about the price drop says only “The iPhone 4GB model will be sold while supplies last.”

They can’t possibly continue selling the 4GB model at $499, can they? They won’t sell a single unit. So if you’re looking for an iPhone on the cheap, there’s at least a chance that you might be able to pick up a 4GB for a break. I’ll do some digging and report back.

Update: Props once again to our readers, who discovered the truth well before Apple PR could return my inquiry. Wayyyyy down at the bottom of the Apple Store’s front page, there’s a little box that says the 4GB iPhone will go for $299 “while supplies last.” So if you’re not pining for an 8GB model, that’s your cheapest iPhone option.

Scroll to the very bottom on Apple's store website and you can see an icon on the bottom right that says $299 for iPhone 4GB while supplies last.
