TeleMoose closes down and Amazon launches an iPhone site

Amazon Logo While Apple heavily touts the iPhone’s ability to view “the real web,” I still prefer to use sites customized for the iPhone whenever possible. One of these iPhone-optimized sites is TeleMoose, an interface for accessing Amazon.com. Unfortunately, when I opened the site today, I was greeted to a message saying that Amazon had asked for it to be shut down (though it will re-open in conjunction with an unannounced online shopping site sometime soon). While I wasn’t exactly sure why this happened, I quickly found out when a trip to Amazon’s homepage prompted me to open Amazon’s “official” iPhone site.

The new Amazon iPhone site isn’t nearly as pretty or AJAX-y as Telemoose, though it does make up for that in speed and ease-of-use. Also, in my use at least, I was not able to change things like payment method, shipping address, and shipping method in checkout. Still, it’s great to have a fast and easy-to-use way to access Amazon on my iPhone.
