Our iPhone Wish List: the Camera

Whew! We’re almost done. Here’s our (short) list of improvements we’d like to see in the iPhone’s camera; the number after each item represents how many editors, out of seven, requested that feature in our informal survey.
Already covered: video capture (5), a flash (2), and better overall camera hardware (1).
More camera control (3): Many current cameraphones let you adjust exposure, focus, etc. Several of us would like to see at least limited control over shots. (Sounds like an unreasonable request until you consider that it’s available on cameras that are available for free from many carriers.)
Limited editing ability (3): Three editors suggested that it would be great if you could perform the kinds of easy-to-use edits offered by a good number of other phones: adjusting brightness, applying filters, and the like. Sure, you could download your photos to your computer and modify them there, but if you just want to tweak a photo before sending it from your phone, having this ability on the phone is handy.
Support for the iPod Camera Connector (2): Apple’s own iPod Camera Connector lets you copy photos from your digital camera directly to your full-size, photo-capable iPod. Yet despite being the best photo-viewing iPod yet, the iPhone doesn’t work with the Camera Connector. Granted, given the iPhone’s small storage capacity, such a feature might not be useful for professional photographers, but you can fit quite a few photos from a point-and-shoot digicam in a gigabyte or two.
Our last list, coming soon, covers “everything else.”

Dan P.: It's right there in the "Already covered" paragraph. (We covered it in our list of hardware feature requests.)

The ability to select multiple photos at once for deletion, email, blog posting, move to album etc..
I find the white balance way off and wish that the current mode at least did a better job at 'auto' white balancing.
most of my gripes with this camera is poor light sensitivity. even in bright lighting situation, it doesn't do a great job, and it will always expose to a single variable based on the brightest part of the frame even if that is not in the center of the image. if your going to remove control, have a better adaptive exposure system. I have several phones/cameras etc and I don't expect my iPhone to be a Rebel, but i do expect it to be better then the majority of camera's in phones today, and it's not. I fear improvements to the camera at that level are strictly hardware :(
once again.. still love my iPhone regardless :)

Photos taken with iPhone are centered when viewed on the computer but are off-center (toward the left) when viewed on iPhone.

while its not common practice in the us but video calls are quite normal in europe, middle east and many other countries. I realize that the phone in its pesent format does not support 3G but when the 3G version arrives it would be a grave mistake not to include a second camera for video calls. Also given the iphone's wi fi access & apple being the leader in video chat it is difficult to understand why the feature was not incorporated in the present model. Please keep in mind that i love my iphone dearly as i do every apple product i've owned since 1986 ignoring the era of scully. :-)
