For third-party iPhone apps, it’s game on
While we’re busy getting all our ducks in a row for the fast approaching Mac-related event, there’s still plenty of iPhone news in the house. After the appearance of the MobileTerminal app on Friday, it seems like the third-party development scene has virtually exploded.
Erica Sadun over at The Unofficial Apple Weblog has been hard at work creating a handful of apps like an iPhone screenshot program, a simple text editor, and a voice recorder.
As nifty as those utilities are, they pale next to the bastion of practicality that is an original Nintendo emulator. That’s right, now you can play Super Mario Bros., MegaMan II, and other video game classics all from your iPhone. The app’s still in pretty basic development: while you can control the game from the touchscreen (using an image of the NES controller), it’s reputedly a bit slow, and at the moment there’s no sound either. And you still need to jump through hoops to get the application and associated ROMs (which you must legitimately own, of course) on the iPhone.
Still, it seems like for the dedicated among us, third-party iPhone applications are becoming a definite reality.

Awesome about the NES hack, but besides Bejeweled, are there any other game sites for the iPhone that doesn't involve hacking?
