Just my type

iPhone Typing TestTyping on the iPhone may not be as bad as we expected, but I think even the best iPhone typists among us will agree that it’s nowhere near as fast as typing on a full keyboard (I mean, ten fingers versus two thumbs? No contest!).

Still, if you’re curious to see just how speedy you are when it comes to inputting text, check out the iPhone Typing Test. Just click on the form field and type something of any length. When you’re finished, hit the “Done” button on the keyboard, and the test will tell you how many words you typed, how long it took you, and what your approximate word per minute score is. I managed a 41 wpm in both landscape and portrait (with one error both times), which is I believe slightly less than half what I can type on a real keyboard.

So, while I don’t think I’ll be working on my novel on the iPhone any time soon (and, unless I want to write it on the web or in Notes, that’s not much of an option anyway), but for tapping out emails, 41wpm seems perfectly respectable. How about it folks, how did you do?

I love how one of the typing statements is about not typing and driving.

I tried to take the typing test, but when I hit Done, nothing happened - no wpm results or anything else.

However, I got a GREAT typing tip - when you want a single character from the .?123 screen, instead of tapping the .?123 button, tapping the desired character, and then tapping the ABC button, just press and hold the .?123 button, drag to the desired character, and release it. The character is inserted, and you are automatically returned to the ABC screen. MUCH more convenient!

Damn. I'm a speed typist...can type 90-100 wpm on a full keyboard...here I got 15 LOL WITH errors! I'll keep practicing.
