Over at our Mac Gems weblog, our own Dan Frakes has pointed out a solution to make iCal’s dock icon always show the current date, reminding me about one of the nice subtle touches that Apple put into the iPhone: the calendar icon on the home screen always shows the current date and day of the week (apologies for the blurry picture). No month, it’s true, but if you can’t remember what month it is, you probably need more help than the iPhone can provide.
Now if only you didn’t have to go through such a tortuous process to make the same happen on your Mac.
i don't get it -- my calendar icons on both my macbook pro and on my iphone always show the right dates. what's all this about it not showing it right?
franko - Are you sure about that? When you exit the iCal program, the Dock icon should be displaying the date July 17, which, a little Google searching will show you, is the anniversary date of iCal's debut back in 2002.
When you open the application, the current date is shown, but closed, unless you've installed some 3rd party plugin/app, it should be shoeing the 17.
Only when iCal is open
aha -- confusion cleared: i have my ical set to launch on startup, and since i use it all the time, i don't quit out of it until shutdown. so, i never noticed this.
