iPhone not reaching absolute power?

Posted by Dan Moren | Monday, July 16, 2007 10:27 AM PT

Battery chargeFirst-generation products always have kinks to work out, and Apple’s are far from an exception. Generally, I’ve been having good luck with my iPhone, though as I’ve been using it for the last two weeks, I’ve definitely come up with a handful of things that I think should be improved.

As far as legitimate glitches, though, I’ve come across fairly few. There’s the VPN keyboard bug, for example, and now an issue with the battery charge screen reflecting the correct capacity. When you plug your iPhone in, a green battery icon appears on the screen, showing you how much charge there is. Unfortunately, due to a glitch, it appears that for many, the battery icon will never reach full charge, though the battery itself will.

Apple’s acknowledged the problem, and says a fix is coming in a software update (sometime soon, one hopes). I’ve noticed this problem myself, though I definitely remember that there was a point when this worked, so who knows what went wrong? Anyway, keep an eye out for iPhone Update 1.0, coming soon to a computer near you.

I've noticed that it shows fully charged after I plug it in when it's less than half charged. If I plug it in when it's more than half charged, I never get the "fully charged" icon.

That could be my imagination, though.

The only time I can get a "full charge" is when I charge the phone from my MacBook Pro. I plugged it in last night to the wall charger and it never reached full. I plugged it into the computer and viola, fully charged.

I got my iPhone the second day it came out and have charged it every night and some times through the day yet it still dosent say it has been fully charged.

I bought an iPhone two weeks ago and I have been having the same problem. I don't have any issues with battery life, but the meter doesn't work properly. The usage stats also say that it hasn't been fully charged.

I've tried to charge it via my USB port on the computer and via the wall jack, both with the same results. Also, when I plug it in for a charge, the big green meter shows more battery life than the small one in the corner shows.

I have the latest firmware update, so I'm hoping that the next one fixes it.
