Hackers in ur iPhone, tweakin’ ur software
Okay, well not your iPhone per se—rather, the iPhone of all of us. Intrepid hackers claim to have gotten access to the iPhone’s file system, and have the done the seemingly impossible: they’ve moved some icons.
In all seriousness, this is likely just the first step on the path to total iPhone domination. You’ve heard it said “never engage in a land war in Asia”? Well, a lesser known corollary is this: “never bet against hackers when the most prominent gadget in the world is on the line.”
This announcement came on the heels of news that hackers had gotten shell access on the iPhone over a serial connection. While none of these developments are the kind of thing that your average user (or heck, even power user) is likely to use, it’s only a matter of time before it’s simplified for the rest of us. The only question to my mind is whether Apple will try to beat the hackers to the punch by releasing a full SDK first.
