One of my colleagues was recently talking about how many open networks he finds with his iPhone. The only problem is that after joining one, the iPhone wants to remember it, even if that network doesn’t let him connect to the ‘net.
It may seem like there’s no way to get the iPhone to “forget” these networks, but it’s there. Open Settings from the Home screen, then tap Wi-Fi, then tap the blue arrow to the right of the network’s name. At the top of the resulting screen is a large “Forget this Network” button; tap it and the selected Wi-Fi network is promptly forgotten.
That may work for open networks, but is there any solution for secure ones? I have one at work that I cannot access, however I always get a pop-up asking me to access it. The "Forget This Network" option is absent in this case.
I also have this problem as well as that the Forget Network does not always seem to work in that I have selected that and later when I have come back into that area it still pops up.
HP: This is expected behavior; when you tell the iPhone to forget a network, that means "act as if this is a brand new network to which I've never connected." Thus, the iPhone will pop up the "do you want to connect" dialog when it detects the network. (Forgetting means that the iPhone won't remember the network's password and won't automatically connect to it.)
What you appear to be looking for is an "Ignore this network" command; unfortunately, the iPhone doesn't provide such a feature.
Dan, I'd like to challenge/change your response a bit. In my case, the iPhone is not saying "act as if this is a brand new network to which I've never connected", it is actually saying "act as if this is a brand new network to which I've never ATTEMPTED TO CONNECT". If you click on that "Want to connect to network?" popup and don't actually connect, it still treats it as a remembered network and will popup each time it is in range.
I like your idea on "ignore this network" command... Should put it on the iPhone update request list!
To make sure the iPhone forgets an-always connecting network select the stubborn network and select static ip.
