Under-hyped feature: Calendar list view

Posted by Dan Frakes | Saturday, June 30, 2007 5:12 PM PT

CalendarList.jpgThe iPhone’s Calendar app didn’t get much attention over the past six months, which is too bad — it’s actually very nice. My favorite feature is one that people have requested of Mac OS X’s iCal for a long, long, time (so much so that some people used a Dashboard widget to get it): a list view that displays all upcoming events.

You can also see from that image that fingerprints are very visible after trying to “swipe” events to delete them. (I kid, I kid; those are simply my quick-and-dirty photo edits to “smudge” out a few non-public events for posting.)

This is something I’ll be using regularly to get a quick look at upcoming events — especially since there’s no Week view on the iPhone.

(Thanks to Daring Fireball for reminding me to mention this.)

A while back, I had asked if iPhone would be compatible to sync with my Yahoo! Calendar and I'm not seeing if/how that happens. I'm wondering if maybe there's a way to subscribe to it via iCal, then sync that to the iPhone. Any suggestions?

Or am I just going to have to access my Yahoo! Calendar via Safari? And that's okay, seeing as even with AT&T's EDGE, the web browser is working pretty smoothly.

Thanks for any suggestions.

I use Plaxo.com to sync my Yahoo Calendar, Google Calendar, and iCal as well as the addressbooks on all those services. The new plaxo works like a charm.

I use Plaxo as well... So if I sync iCal to Plaxo as well, I can use that as the "link" between the two. Very cool. Thanks for the tip!

You can't do anything but place a 911 call before activation.

I am disappointed to see there is no Tasks or To-Do feature on the iPhone. That feature is definitely on my wish list for the new software release.

I'm having trouble syncing my iPhone with iCal. The events show up but the times listed are always five hours off. If I enter an event in iCal on my computer and then sync it shows up five hours later on my iPhone. If I enter it on my iPhone and sync it shows up five hours earlier in iCal. I've checked my time zones but they are set to Central. Very puzzling and disappointing since I was really hpoing to use this feature to organize my schedule. Suggestions are sincerely appreciated!

Robert,
I had the same problem, it was solved by going into the settings in iphone and then choosing my city (central time city also) in the time zone for my iphone, my iCal is also set at central, it fixed the problem immediately,
my problem is that i can't choose the calendar which the the events created on the iPhone are added to, I get the full list, but the itunes info tab for the iphone keeps taking me to the one that i don't want to use,

If i add events into my calander on my iphone and then sync them to my mac, it'll erase the event instead of adding it to ical. What should I do?? I'm going crazy and losing impt. dates. Help is greatly appreciated
