Shawn King’s first iPhone impressions

As those who follow this blog’s comments know, Shawn King (of Your Mac Life fame) has known a lot about the iPhone, a lot sooner than most of us. Finally, though, Shawn’s being a little less coy and letting us know just what he thinks of the iPhone after spending some close, personal time with it recently.

Does it live up to the hype? Of course it doesn't-it couldn't possibly. As David Platt, a computer science professor at Harvard University, remarked to Reuters, “God himself could not design a device that could live up to all the hype.”

But, when you separate the wheat from the chaff, fact from fiction, hope from hype, it turns out the iPhone really is an amazing product given all that it is required to do. Here are five things I noticed after using the phone this week:

What are those five things? Come on. You’ll have to read the story to find out.

Having just watched the iphone tour on the Apple site, the only thing I can say is what a great piece of equipment. My only grumble would be why do you need to click a button on the headset to answer a call. I had a Gear4 Blueye (before I broke it!!) which was bluetoothed to my phone. This worked brilliantly with my ipod, when I got a call the music would pause and restart when the call ended. I am surprised tha this was not incorporated into the iphone from the get-go.

Once again though a superb looking piece of kit and I can't wait to get hold of it in the UK.
