Queue for your iPhone online too
Not exactly thrilled by the idea of joining the unwashed hordes in lining up for the iPhone at local Apple and AT&T stores? There may be an easier way. In the redesigned iPhone section of Apple’s website, a tantalizing tidbit points out that you may not have to venture forth from the comfortable seclusion of your home, if you want to snag yourself an iPhone.
There are references on both the iPhone main page and on the iPhone’s Guided Tour page to buying your iPhone online:
Browse, shop and buy your iPhone online. Coming soon.
This isn’t really a surprise, since Apple’s online store is such a big part of their sales, but the $499 question is when those links will go active. 6PM on the 29th? Eastern? Pacific? Hawaii time?
And, of course, unless Apple has in the meantime mastered their iMolecularTransporter, you’ll have to wait at least a few days for the iPhone to show up on your doorstep (its belongings tied in a handkerchief at the end of a stick).

It will be interesting to see how much of a discount one could grab on an iPhone via one of Apple's "other" online stores. Education, fed employee, etc.
That's my Plan C. A = waiting in line. B = hitting every Apple and at&t store on my way to the east coast. If those two fail, I'll buy online upon my return and maybe I'll snag a discount?

I doubt you'll find a discount, but it would be a good find if you do!

Is there a new unknown Apple store somewhere in the middle of Kansas? Could be worth a drive.

Hi, does anyone have an idea if the iPhone will work as an iPod or an internet device without an At&t simcard? Can it work in Asia Pacific region even if I will buy one from USA?

@Walt, I was thinking the same thing.
It's a good thing for many that the iPhone goes on sale @6PM after the banks close.
That way if you are waiting for your paycheck, you can "float" the purchase until Monday!
"Hmm, rent or iPhone?"
Cheers!

I did see the "link to be" on their website yesterday. It'll be interesting to see how much more shipping will be.
You know, you can't get an educational discount on the iPod anymore so I'm not anticipating a discount on the iPhone. Unless you know someone that works in an Apple Store or AT&T store. But they'll probably be monitoring everyone when it comes to giving away their discounts on these coveted iPhones.

Apple typically ships free on orders over $50.

I just talked to Cingular rep today. You need to get a new 2 year contract with the phone. Even if you already are a subscriber, you can't just add the phone to your current contract. You would have to cancel your current contract with Cingular, pay a early termination fee, then sign-up for the new contract...
I couldn't believe it!!! How retarded is this. Please, someone tell me this isn't so... So if I'm already a Cingular customer, they are going to shaft me with an early termination fee to sign up for a new contract?

I've heard others post on the web that AT&T told them they would simply restart their two year contract with the purchase of the iPhone. No mention was may of an early termination fee.

I've heard others on the web who have asked AT&T about purchasing an iPhone, and they were told that their two year contract would simply be restarted with the purchase of the iPhone. No mention was made of an early termination fee.

It's called iTransporter. It has been developped by an Apple ingeneer named Montgomery Scott. Sources from Apple told Think Secret that it will be released around june 3007.

Speaking of AT&T, anyone have info on what calling plans will be available/required for the iPhone and their cost?
