I love it when a plan comes together: Apple, AT&T announce plan pricing
Speculation time? Over, friends. AT&T and Apple announced the plan pricing for the iPhone just this morning. Here’s how it pans out:
$59.99 will get you 450 minutes
$79.99 will get you 900 minutes
$99.99 will get you 1,350 minutes
All three plans include unlimited data, Visual Voicemail, 200 text messages (not sure if that’s sent, received, or both), rollover minutes, and unlimited mobile-to-mobile calling. In addition to the monthly cost, there’s a one-time $36 activation fee. According to the press release, you can also choose any of AT&T’s other voice plans as well, and family plans are available, though details weren’t given.
Tome me, it sounds as though Your Mac Life host Shawn King was pretty right on the money with his $20/month for unlimited data suggestion. A standard 450 minute plan from AT&T costs $39.99, so pop on $20 for data and you’ve got $59.99. Likewise 900 minutes and 1,350 minutes run for $59.99 and $79.99 respectively.
I currently pay about $45 for 400 minutes on Verizon, so $60 for unlimited data, 450 minutes, and 200 text messages sounds pretty good to me. We can all breathe a collective sigh of relief.

What if you have a family member already on AT&T? Is there a family plan option?

Here's more great news:
Existing AT&T Customers
If you’re already an AT&T customer and want to keep your current voice plan, you can just add an iPhone Data Plan with unlimited data (email and web) and Visual Voicemail for just $20 per month.

There are three more plans, for those who talk WAY too much.
Highest shown is 6000 minutes for $219. (Click the little "more minutes" button at the bottom right of the price table at Apple's site.) That's about 1/8th of your total available time in a month--a higher fraction of one's hours awake.
For me, 450 is fine...I'll get to watch them roll over.

That $45/month Verizon plan is also the one I have, with a little extra for texting.
$60/month for all the other bells and whistles is just about right and even though it seemed steep at first, it is very reasonable. I mean how can you expect to use any of the map, weather widget, Safari functions and expect to pay $20/month or less. This isn't for a child or for someone needing to pinch pennies at the end of each month.
This is a new device for early adopters and even so is VERY accessible!
I am pleasantly surprised and will probably be getting one next year.
