Are you getting your “camping out for the iPhone” merit badge?
There may be just over forty-eight hours left before the iPhone descends in all its glory, but that doesn’t mean that people aren’t getting ready to buy one now. The camp outs have started in earnest in places like New York City and San Francisco, and that number is only expected to increase in the next two days as everybody gears up for the home stretch.
So, readers, I ask you this: are you planning on camping out? What time will you be there, and how will you be stocked? Are you perhaps, reading this while in line already? Let us known in the comments below.

I will get to my local Apple Store Friday morning when the mall opens.

I was really hoping I could just go over there around 2:00 on Friday. But today (Wednesday morning), I stopped by the Pasadena CA Apple store, and there's already someone in line. I'm afraid this will encourage others to pile on.
I want an iPhone, but I'm really not ready to camp out overnight. Friday morning, maybe. We'll see.

I'm planning on getting to the mall around 2pm. I figure there really isn't a "good place" to camp out there without blocking another store's entrance and like Adam said, I'm want one but camping out overnight is a bit excessive in my book. I am clearing my Friday and heading across town towards the mall early, however.

I was planning on camping out till my family booked a trip to europe on friday morning... The plane has a FOUR hr layover in NJ and departs at 6:30PM Friday June 29th. Which means that I will be stuck on an unblessed (by iGod) continent for 10days. All I can hope for is hundreds of user reviews on the device until my return.

i agree with those here. i really want an iphone, but i'm not excited about sleeping on concrete for it. i'm hoping that most people will agree and wait until friday afternoon to start lining up.
if not, i'll be in line overnight...

Are you sure the picture isn't a bunch of homeless people in downtown San Francisco?

The Standing-In-Line Prayer (Short Version)
Now I lay me down to sleep,
My place in line I pray to keep;
If I should lose it before I buy,
A second time I hope to try.
For God is good and Steve Jobs great;
I really hope the Apple store stays open late.
Amen.

My secret weapon is the fact that my nearest ATT store (which IS handling the iPhone) does not appear on the ATT store finder map.
Unfortunately, the store noticed this afternoon and fired off an email complaint to headquarters.
(The store doesn't even show up when one searches for everything, although then a Cingular kiosk about 80 feet away does appear (and why does the mall need both?).
